Switching guide

Switch to Passiro.
More included. From $0.

Move your cookie banner and privacy settings to Passiro. Follow the steps below to review your setup, test visitor choices and make the switch.

Four steps to a clean switch.

Prepare access to your current CMP and website. Involve your tag specialist where needed. Keep the old banner live while testing Passiro separately.

  1. Map your current setup.

Find out where your current banner is installed and what depends on it. A short inventory now helps prevent missing tags or duplicate banners later.

    • Locate the old script, CMS plugin, theme code or tag manager installation.
    • List the tools in each consent category and any custom blocking rules or callbacks.
    • Note your GPC handling, IAB GPP requirements and Google Consent Mode setup, plus TCF v2.4 if you serve European audiences.
    • Record the domains, regional rules and languages you use.
    • Find your privacy policy, cookie declaration, preference settings and any ‘Your Privacy Choices’ or ‘Do Not Sell or Share’ links.
  2. Save your settings and records.

Save the settings and evidence you may need before removing access to your old provider.

    • Export the consent records and reports you need to retain, and store them securely.
    • Save your banner wording, languages, categories and regional settings. Screenshots help.
    • Keep your cookie inventory and policy links so you can review them against the new setup.

Passiro does not import existing consents. Keep your exports; new consent history starts when Passiro goes live.

  3. Set up Passiro and test.

Add your site, review its scan and configure your banner. Test separately with the old CMP disabled.

    • Configure your design, wording, categories, blocking, regional rules and Google Consent Mode settings.
    • Add your test hostname to Allowed Domains. Copy the site’s script from Implementation and place it first in the <head>, before other scripts, without async or defer.
    • Update integrations that depend on your old CMP’s attributes, events or consent checks.
    • Run Verify Installation, then complete the four choice checks below. A successful installation check does not replace a functional test.
    See the four checks
  4. Switch in one release.

Coordinate one release: remove the old banner as Passiro takes over. Keep a tested rollback ready.

    • Remove the old installation and activate Passiro in the same coordinated release.
    • Update policy and preference links, then clear relevant website and CDN caches.
    • Repeat the four checks on the live site, including mobile and important conversion pages.
    • Confirm that your exports are accessible before canceling the old subscription.

What to set up again, copy over or leave behind.

Switching is a new setup, not an automatic account transfer. Use your existing configuration as a reference, and review it as you go.

  • Set up again

    Recreate these settings in Passiro.

    • Consent categories
    • Script blocking rules
    • Regional settings
    • Tool and tag integrations
    • Google Consent Mode configuration
    • IAB GPP and TCF v2.4 on Pro and above
    • Team members and access
  • Copy and review

Use your saved content as a starting point.

    • Banner wording and translations
    • Colors and styling
    • Your logo on Pro or above
    • Cookie inventory and policy content
  • Keep in your archive

These records are not imported into Passiro.

    • Previous consent records
    • Old reports, analytics and configuration evidence.

Download these before closing the old account.

Keep one banner active, never two.

Two active consent platforms can display duplicate banners or send conflicting instructions to your tags. Check the installation as well as what you see on screen.

  • Remove the old script or plugin completely. Hiding its banner is not enough.

  • Check templates, tag manager containers and cached pages for leftover code.

  • Replace old CMP events, consent checks and blocking attributes where your integrations use them.

  • Give one implementation ownership of Google consent defaults and updates. Remove competing instructions while preserving intentional regional rules.

  • Test with a fresh browser state so saved choices do not hide problems.

Check every choice.

Start with no saved choice and check your consent defaults before measurement begins. Test all four choices before and after launch, on desktop and mobile.

    Consent record

For your U.S. setup, also test supported GPC signals and any sale, sharing or targeted advertising opt-outs. Check that connected tools respond as intended.

In Basic Consent Mode, Google tags wait for consent. In Advanced, cookieless pings can continue while denied. Verify signals in Tag Assistant, cookies and requests in developer tools, and choices in Passiro. Withdrawal cannot undo sent data; some tools need revocation or a reload.

Frequently asked questions

Can I import consent from my old CMP?

No. Passiro does not import consent records or reports from another CMP. Export the records you need before closing your old account. Your new consent history starts in Passiro.

Will visitors see the banner again?

Visitors whose choices exist only in your old CMP will need to choose again when Passiro displays the banner under your regional settings. An exported record does not carry their browser choice into Passiro.

How long does switching take?

For a straightforward website, budget 1–2 hours of hands-on work for preparation, setup and testing. This is a planning estimate, not a guaranteed migration time. Custom scripts, multiple domains or complex tag setups can take longer. Scanning and release approvals may add elapsed time.

Can I run both banners while testing?

Keep your current banner on the live site while you test Passiro separately. Disable the old CMP in that test environment. Running both on the same page can create conflicting consent signals, even if one banner is hidden.

Do I need a developer?

If you can edit your site’s global <head> and manage the relevant tags, you may be able to handle the change yourself. Bring in a developer or tag specialist for custom integrations, complex blocking rules or coordinated releases.

What should I do with old consent records?

Keep the records you need under your retention policy in a secure, accessible archive. Check that the export is usable before canceling. Passiro records new choices after installation; it does not replace your previous platform’s history.

Which Passiro plan do I need?

Free includes unlimited visitors, a visual banner editor, monthly scans of up to 500 pages, consent analytics, exports, automatic script blocking and Google Consent Mode v2. Choose Pro from $10 per domain/month for your own logo, removal of Passiro branding, more frequent scans and IAB TCF support. Check the pricing page for full limits and plan details.
